Children’s Immune Support
We are asked this question a lot- what are some safe immune support options for children?
The question makes a lot of sense. While children and sniffles go together like peanut butter and jelly, most cold medicines designed for adult use are not safe in children. With children, the best approach is prevention, and there are 2 favorites I recommend for every family in my practice to keep their children’s immune support robust and healthy so that they’re able to naturally fend off any infectious nuisances.*
In our house, these are a total treat- my kids can’t wait to take them, they always remember to take them, and they even like to sneak them to the dog! And thank goodness! The reason for this is that so much of the immune system is located around the gut (the GALT), and functional immune support depends upon proper probiotic colonization in the gut. There are many options available- ours, due to the potency (which I care about) and the taste (which the children care about) is Klaire Labs Ther-Biotic Children’s Chewable (KTCC). *
Elderberry Syrup is amazing- it looks beautiful, it tastes great, it’s loaded with flavonoids, and it’s also been clinically studied and has promise as one of the best immune supporters.* It’s as safe as blueberries. And your kids will beg for it!
I love AnthoImmune Elderberry Syrup (M04970) – made by Maine Medicinals, an organic elderberry grower, its simple recipe of elderberry, elder flower, blueberry, and agave (and a pinch of alcohol to preserve), it’s taste can’t be beat! We use this on ice cream, in seltzer to make a nice “soda”, or straight off the spoon to keep our immune systems strong. *
