“Building Houses, Building Hope.” Emerson Ecologics volunteers with Habitat for Humanity!
The Emerson SHARES (Society, Health, Activism and Responsible Environmental Stewardship) committee is dedicated to pursuing wellness for us, our colleagues, our families and neighborhoods—in addition to the earth. As community starts from within, our goal is to take our associates’ ideals, passion and spirit beyond Emerson to educate and better our communities and the planet through volunteering and team initiatives.
We had an amazing opportunity to devote our time and volunteer efforts with Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity on June 9th and 10th in Rochester, NH. Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity shares a vision where everyone has a safe and decent place to live and housing poverty and homelessness are dramatically reduced. Habitat for Humanity makes this possible by partnering with like-minded corporations, faith-based organizations, non-profits and local governments including individual volunteers to turn a house into a home. Taking part in helping achieve this vision and to know a family is safe and secure in a place to call home is a feeling that can only be described as great joy and gratification.
“One of my passions in life is volunteering. It really touches a part of my heart that is hard to explain. Joy and hopefulness overwhelm me. As head of the SHARES committee, I have had the opportunity to volunteer for some cool things but today’s by far the coolest. For the 2nd time we will be volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. Very exciting!” -Sharmaine Sanders, founder and head of SHARES Committee.
“Taking time out of a simple work day to help better a life is incredibly rewarding. Learning about the family that would be moving in and there current condition puts it into perspective of why you really are there to volunteer. It makes all your hard work worth it, and you feel so accomplished. Not only are you changing lives, but you are a part of a greater good.” – Bethany Majkut,
In the two days of volunteering, Emerson Ecologics employees hung dry wall and put in insulation in a multi-family home, one unit for a family of six, two parents and four young children. It’s incredibly heartwarming to know that we can help make a difference to a family that is in need of support, and collaborating with Habitat for Humanity to make this possible positively impacts each and every one of us.
